The second event with the title “Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL): Film Analysis on Human Rights, War Crimes and Genocide”

The second event titled “Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL): Film Analysis on Human Rights, War Crimes and Genocide” organized by Dr. Süreyya Sönmez-Efe, a faculty member of Political Science at Lincoln University in England, and Assoc Prof. Dr. Esra Yılmaz Eren, a faculty member of the Turkish-German University Faculty of Law, was held on May 28, 2025.

In the event attended by a total of 25 students, 9 different films on genocide and crimes against humanity were analyzed within theoretical and legal frameworks. The films:

- S21: Khmer Rouge Killing Machine (Cambodia Genocide)
- The Killing Fields (Cambodia Genocide)
- 100 Women in Conversations-Nadia Murad (BBC Documentary) (Yazidi Genocide)
- Docu-series: How to Become a Tyrant (Authoritarian Leadership and Atrocities)
- The Pianist (The Holocaust)
- Schindler’s List (The Holocaust)
- Hotel Rwanda (Rwandan Genocide)
- My Mother’s Wound (Srebrenica Genocide)

In the first part of the event, which was structured in three stages, students conducted group work at their own universities, while in the second stage, students from both universities met on an online platform and made their presentations. At the end of the event, students wrote an evaluation article containing their learning experiences and exchange of ideas.

This international collaboration model (COIL) offers students the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the subject, gain interdisciplinary perspectives and exchange ideas with peers from different universities. Students who successfully complete the event will be awarded with a certificate signed by both institutions and faculty members.
